F.A.O. Benita Middleton The Arts Society Bookham 24th May 2023 Dear Benita, I am writing to thank The Arts Society Bookham for your generous donation of £750 and confirm safe receipt of the funds. Your prompt participation in this years Kind2Mind Challenge has enabled us to double this donation. You have been instrumental to our success of raising our target amount of £10,000 and we are absolutely delighted and encouraged to know your support is behind us. Life can be challenging for children and young people generally and we are hearing more and more from our colleagues how young people are suffering with complex issues from bullying, depression, isolation and addictions to eating disorders, self-harm and serious family & relationship issues. We support children, whatever their struggles, to develop into confident, thriving and resilient young adults. It is because of the generosity of our partners like you we are able to be there. Should you like any further information on Eikons work please let us know. You are also welcome to come along to the offices in Addlestonewhere you canmeet the team and hear more about how your support is contributing. On behalf of Eikon, a huge thank you from all of us and for supporting us on this journey. Grants and Corporate Partnership Coordinator Michelle.savage@eikon.org.uk |

| A Schoolgirl's War - A Talk by Mary Smith |

An invitation from Bookham U3A Social History Group to a talk by Mary Smith. Mary Smith is returning to Bookham to reprise her talk about school life during World War Two; recorded by art teacher Miss Helen Keen with her paintings and drawings at Maidstone Grammar School for Girls. Mary was the Headteacher of the school between 2006 – 2015 and on her retirement researched the events and drawings of Helen Keen’s war. Her very entertaining and informative talk is based on Helen’s art work and gives us a window into 1940s school life when the country was fighting for its very survival. Mary’s talk ‘A Schoolgirl’s War’ will have you gasping at the ingenuity of lessons in air raid shelters while bombs dropped all around and the idiosyncrasies of officialdom – ignored when necessary. All illustrated by Helen Keen’s very perceptive paintings and doodles. Doors open at 09.30 am Talk 10.30am - 11.30am The Old Barn Hall, Church Road, Bookham, KT23 3PQ £5.00 on the door Tea and coffee will be on offer For more information and to book contact brianwilliams14@btinternet.com |

| Mary Hughes |

It is with sadness that we have to pass on the news that Mary Hughes has died. Mary was an outstanding programme secretary and to her credit she quietly developed the eclectic programme that we now appreciate. The service was held in St Nicolas church and we, The Arts Society, provided a flower arrangement although we are in Lent. Her family were most appreciative of this gesture . |
